Health as a social construction, a biological and psychological experience. Explores the social, cultural, political and economic forces that influence health, health-seeking behaviors, or health and medical policies. Emphasis given to serious human mental disorders and physical problems and diseases, theory and research pertaining to these social processes, and ecological and demographic factors in health and medicine. Topics may also include subjective indicators of quality of life, comparative health issues, and the shifting organization of medicine and health-care delivery, the behavior and social relations of patients, physicians, nurses and public-health leaders, and health problems relating to the family, personality and the life cycle.
